Returning to action after a huge loss gave Naty Zenigata the motive to resume training and fine-tuning her craft. She wasn’t given the axe, meaning there is another chance to redeem herself.
Being at the iconic, United Skates of America, did present temptation for the Japanese-born wrestler, given the drink selection at the bar.
But no.
What about Jimmy? What about Mrs. Williams who has done everything in her power to ensure that her son would have the best birthday ever? Naty would make sure she’d do her part and believes her opponent will also make a special contribution of her own.
The venue is blasting “radio-friendly” music, allowing the skaters to move to the rhythm and beat. Naty is at the arcade, walking past several occupied stations, She decides to see if she can snag a prize from the claw machine. There’s an assortment of toys and plush animals. The plush cow nestled between a duck and a turtle catches her eye - not because she had forgotten to drink her morning cup of ginger lemongrass beef bone broth that day.
“Averie,” she says under her breath, placing her hands on the glass.
The reflection of the camera lens is seen as the videographer stands several feet behind Naty. She takes note of them, turning to face the camera.
“Being here, surrounded by the young and old, it’s easy to see that we are not that much different from children. You mention prizes, and they show up ready to win them. Many of us are these balls of energy early in our careers desperate to unleash and prove ourselves to the ones in power. We have our eyes on the prize, and having been close to winning, I am left unsatiated. Jersey Jim has demonstrated he is still a force in this business whether you like him or not. He is sturdy as he is...distinctive.”
Naty turns her attention back to the claw machine. She reaches in her front pocket for a coin to initiate a session, allowing for two attempts. She moves the joystick forward, shifting to the right before releasing the claw into the pile of toys. The videographer moves to the side of the machine, capturing her look of suspense as the claw clasps onto the cow’s leg.
“She puts up a fight,” Naty says, watching the claw come up with nothing. One can say these devices are oiled allowing for slippage. She steps to the side, letting a child make an attempt on her behalf.
The skate rink clears up some after several children rush to the dining area to fuel themselves with pizza and sweets. Naty glides across the hardwood floor in her high top heelys, getting a lap around the rink before stopping in the middle. She leans against a padded post, allowing the videographer to stand in place.
“Averie Stardust, the moo-tastic rodeo queen. Her bright spirit has allowed her to work wonderfully with Baba to defeat the power couple that casts a dark shadow on the sunniest of days. What she said leading up to her victory resonated with me, wanting to step it up and become champion one day, I get that. I want that for myself. Being in attendance to see her pin Noelle was inspiring not only to the fans but to me as well.”
The DJ changes the song to something mellow for the parents and teens that remain in the rink.
“Throughout the ups and downs, consistency is important. Be consistent with your determination and you will achieve anything you want. If you are in some sort of ‘hell,’ you need to fight yourself out of it. What I look forward to most about my match with Averie is squaring off with someone who has a similar mindset, as we want to show how badass we are, while sticking to our principles. Fighting with integrity and honesty ultimately pays off, and I am happy to demonstrate this with Miss Stardust. My goals and aspirations did not change because of a setback. I am only motivated to improve and work my way up to becoming champion one day.
2020 has been a difficult year, and in this time of healing, nothing would make me happier than to ensure Jimmy has the best birthday ever! Let’s go, Averie. Let’s give Jimmy and his guests something to talk about for years to come. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JIMMY!”
She waves at the camera enthusiastically before fading out.
